What is an RSS feed

October 15, 2007, Category: Blogging

This article has been due for a while and will be used as a link beside the feed button.

Today we will be answering the question, What is an RSS feed?

RSS stands for really simple syndication. An RSS document, which is called a “feed,” “web feed,” or “channel,” contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text.

RSS allows for people to be able to keep track of a blog or multiple blogs updated content through a reader or aggregator. A person can then subscribe to feeds most of the time by using a button that looks like this pink-feed-tiny.gif. This button is displayed in all sizes and colors to allow for people that wish to subscribe to click on it and then choose the type of reader that will get the new feed delivered each day.

There are many type of readers and Google probably offers the most popular. Here is a link. Google reader

So maybe you have been hesitant to subscribe to a feed. This should give you a better explanation. So if you haven’t already joined my feed why not join now?

If you would like a video explanation to help better understand what a feed is you can see that HERE.
