USopen.com vs USopen.org

September 9, 2007, Category: SEO

I thought it was interesting to do a little comparison between The official US golf association website versus the the official US tennis association website to see how they compare. If you think the Golf site got more traffic you are wrong. Lets break the stats down and take a look.

ALEXA RANKING

  • USopen.com – Ranking 22,246
  • USopen.org – Ranking 2756

Amazing really the contrast of rank in comparison. Tennis takes it hands down over Golf. So is tennis just so much more popular than golf. What makes people visit USopen.org more than USopen.com. When I first went to both sites I must say I was dissapointed with the way the official golf site looks. It is lacking so much that there really seems to be no point to browse around except for ticket information. When I went to the official tennis site though, right away it was appealing to the eyes and had pics and a more modern look from the get go. Ok but looks cant be 100 percent what drives visitors. So what other factors point to USopen.org dominating?

Its interesting to find that both sites were created in the same year. How do the incoming links match up between the two? Take a look.

ALEXA INCOMING LINKS

  • USopen.com – Incoming links 455
  • USopen.org – Incoming links 1,214

So we begin to see the difference here of incoming links, and it reflects because if you type in “usopen” in google the first site that appears is usopen.org followed by .com.

Another factor that seems to have more of an impact on Tennis is that now days with such a variety of players from all different countries there is many more visitors other than the US, whereas Golf still has its roots located here in The US so the majority of visitors would seem to be from the US. Amazingly however the stats tell us different yet again with 26 percent of visitors coming from the US for Usopen.com and 19 percent for USopen.org. It seems almost impossible to pinpoint anything else particularly that would show why the .ORG has dominated the .COM but I guess it just shows that Tennis is a much more popular sport than Golf that is the only conclusion I can come to.

If you would like to take a look and compare the stats for youself below are the links.
