I understand what you are saying Sean. However, the problem is that people have put so much emphasis on pagerank for so long that it seems to be a very important factor.

Now if it is for selling links on a website, the people who buy those links only to try to help boost PR rather than for the exposure are really blowing their money. It's all about the quantity of visitors rather than what the Google tool bar shows for rank.

People will start realizing this is not what it used to be and pagerank now has less validity than it ever had. I use to be just as thrilled with updates as everyone else when Google danced, but now I have no interest. All I care about is giving good content and getting ranked well in the Search engines.

I'm new to blogging. At the moment I have no PageRank and I think it is very important to start getting ranked. I am concerned though by the power that Google has over peoples lives. If you are trying to make a living from blogging as I am and if Google can cause your ranking to fluctuate as much as they like, then that is a serious problem.

Many of the blogs effected by this are very influential ones. If they were to start a movement away from Google it would help in the long-run to remove our over-dependence on this single search engine.
