Kid Bloggers Are Liars

December 10, 2007, Category: marketing

stick1.jpgI have seen a lot of sites around of kid bloggers. Some as young as 8 years old. Now some of them are legitamate, but others I tend to believe may be a parent that has taken a picture of their kid and put his or her face as the author of the blog. I say some of these people are full of it and only pretend to be a kid for marketing reasons. With the emergence of kids like Carlocab.com and others that were early in on the game, people gave attention to these people. I mean… Its a kid, and he says he is going to show you the adult how to make money, or if your a fellow kid.

Got Nothing Against The Real Deal

I have nothing against kids, and if a kid thats still in diapers can show you how to make money then thats fine, but I just think that a lot of them have a load of help from parents, or are just not kids at all. Have you ever given the time to take a look at the way some of these sentances are worded? I don’t think some kids that young have the business smarts to understand half of the stuff they are telling you.

What In The Heck I Am Saying

Bottom line is that a kid that can’t even touch the gas pedal of a car much less sign up for an adsense account or other affiliates may not be who you think they are. If you want to follow what a kid does then thats fine, but if you realize that you are paying attention because you are amazed about the knowledge the youngster appears to have then you will realize why that kid is making money. Its not that He or She has something of value, its that people are just paying attention all because of age. A great marketing scheme that works!

My 11 year old son isn’t blogging yet. Should I be concerned? :)

I think kid bloggers deserve some commemoration. Legitimate ones must work just as hard, if not harder, than an adult in the industry. I can imagine how difficult it would be to be taken seriously in the online world – a kid would really have to know his stuff.

Some kids I do think are legit but ugh, you’re right, others are just a fake out.

There’s a problem when my own blog uses more slang and is more childish than theirs.

Frank – You should be concerned only when your son tells you, “dad, I made more than you with my blog ads this month”. then you should be scared.

Brian – I agree, there are a few to give some props too, but I more respect their parents for showing them how to do it, and how to teach others. Its the parents, not the kids the great majority of the time.

Mariam – Totally agreed. If anything these kids have an edge over adults. There is something more interesting about a kid showing people something than an adult I guess.

I actually still disagree. Most of the time (not all the time) the parents have nothing to do with it. Think about it – who does the average parent go to when they need computer help? Their kids. Kids are growing up on the internet and on the computer, they probably know more than most adults.

All they would need help with is setting up a paypal account and a domain name – after that I’m confident that a kids could freelance by himself.
